ALPACAS ARE JUST SO DARN CUTE !! THEY ARE FUN ! THEY MAKE YOU SMILE! THEY MAKE GREAT COMPOST !
THEY MAKE GREAT FLEECE , FOR YARN, FOR SOCKS, FOR TAX DEDUCTION, FOR A FINE WAY OF LIFE
FOR MAKING NEW FRIENDS, FOR HAPPINESS, FOR MEANING IN YOUR LIFE, FOR KEEPING YOU FIT AND ACTIVE
FOR LIVING THE GOOD FARM LIFE !!
TAX ADVANTAGES WITH OWNING ALPACAS:
Alpaca farming is a tax deductible operation, since alpacas produce a “product” and that product is
their fleece. Farming has many tax advantages and the details fall under Section 179 of the IRS Tax Code. SEE IRS PUBLICATION #225 which is the Farmers Tax Guide.
The alpacas, themselves, or rather the cost of purchasing the alpacas , the care (feed),
fencing, and all related equipment should be tax deductible. (Please see your tax advisor for details.)!
If you are thinking about buying alpacas but do not have the land ready, we can “agist” or board your
alpacas for you here at our farm. In fact, when you purchase one of our alpacas, they will come with
three months of FREE BOARD !
However, one should demonstrate the utilization of the product, ie; the wonderful fleece. This is where
many alpaca farmers fall short. We were brought into alpaca farming, via the fiber end, we bought
the alpacas in order to obtain their beautiful fiber ! We, at Happy Hills Alpaca Farm, do not keep our
fiber for more than a year, since we are processing and utilizing our fiber . Our alpacas work for their
living! They “keep” themselves and provide us with enough income through non-slaughter means
so that all of their hay, grain, medicine and vet bills are paid for by them. The sale of livestock still
continues to be the big seller and when that happens, it is gravy for us. If, in the course of starting up
your alpaca farm you encounter financial losses, these losses can help to offset other taxable income.
It is important that when making choices as to where to purchase your alpacas, that you choose your
farm for mentoring purposes as well. We have certain promises that we make to our clients and live by
